The Falcons boosted their title hopes with a 1-1 tie last Friday against Lancaster, which had lost only to Palmdale during the first round of league play. The Falcons were further aided by the Eagles’ loss Monday to Littlerock, which dropped Lancaster (5-2-2 in league) two games back with three games remaining. Wild ending: Palmdale and Quartz Hill on Wednesday put together one of this Golden League season’s most exciting eight-minute stretches of play. The teams tied 4-4 with four of the goals scored in the final eight minutes. Brandon Alfaro scored on a header to put Palmdale up 3-2 with eight minutes to go. Quartz Hill’s Travis Stenseth evened the score, and Cody Jenison followed by heading in a corner kick for the Rebels’ first lead of the night. A penalty in the closing seconds enabled Alfaro to score the final tying goal. Quartz Hill, which rallied from a 2-0 deficit, played most of the game down a man after receiving a first-half red card. The Golden League’s final boys’ soccer playoff berth could be decided tonight when defending champion Littlerock High plays host to Highland. Palmdale and Lancaster have all but clinched the top two spots, so the race for third is the only meaningful battle remaining a week remaining in the regular season. Littlerock is two points ahead of Highland with three games remaining. Momentum is on Littlerock’s side. The Lobos (4-2-2 Golden) on Monday defeated second-place Lancaster 3-1 and on Wednesday edged Antelope Valley 1-0. Highland (3-2-4) is coming off a 3-2 upset loss to Knight. Littlerock was the only Golden team to advance past the first round of the Southern Section playoffs last year, reaching the Div. I quarterfinals. Shut out again: Knight has yet to score in five games against Quartz Hill at the varsity level. Knight was blanked again Monday in a 2-0 loss to Quartz Hill. In the rankings: Palmdale moved up two spots to No. 3 in this week’s Div. I rankings. Paraclete is seventh in Div. V. Training camp: Quartz Hill’s Travis Stenseth is organizing a two-day soccer camp as part of his senior project. Players will be instructed by professionals from the Institute of Brazilian Futebol. The event is scheduled for Feb. 18-19 at the Pelona Vista Soccer Complex in Palmdale. For further information, contact Stenseth at (661) 722-8151.
